5 Stages of Addiction Recovery
The first stage of addiction recovery involves acknowledging the problem and taking action. While this stage will not cure the addiction, it will allow the addict to begin the process of recovery. Once an addict has realized that they have a problem, they will begin to look for information and resources to understand the disease and what they need to do to break free. The first step to overcoming addiction is to recognize the signs of the disease and begin to understand the consequences of its presence. During this stage, an addict begins to recognize that they have a problem and that they need help. The addict will often rationalize or question the severity of their problem. This will lead them to continue using substances, even if they are not hurting others. They will start to realize how much it affects them and their lives.
